Training – Communications

Communications training began with a field trip to Paducah-McCracken County Dispatch, members were shown how dispatchers in their local office manage local communications between the community and officers/firefighters in the field. After members returned to the station, multiple drills took place to help members with speaking on the radio. Beginning with Mayday and Scene size-up drills, members took turns going through slide shows and flash cards to practice how to communicate over the radio. Afterwards the fun began and members began trying to assemble Lego sets over the radio, during this, multiple members provided background noise and cross channel radio traffic to make things more like the fire ground. While much fun was had by all, the end goal is to provide the most practical training available in the category we are faced with!
